CHOOSING THE MEDIUM

An animated film gives us freedom – freedom to do a period piece of large scale without being worried about sets, locations, casts, props and costumes. An animated film allows us to be metaphorical and artistic in telling a story of a war in an appropriate manner for the younger audience. An animated film gives us the ability to more accurately represent the historic figures in the least expensive but the most expressive larger than life possible way.
We decided to choose 2D animation because it’s more fluid and lively. We figured that fundamentally the vibrant tones and techniques of a well-crafted 2D production are visually more in line with the art and culture of Bangladesh. Not to mention, financially it actually gives us a chance to produce world class content within the constraint of our limited resources.

PRODUCTION TIMELINE

Picture
We are looking to release the first trailer of the film on 26 March 2019, on the Independence Day of Bangladesh. Second trailer to be released on 16 December of 2019, on the Victory day of Bangladesh. Short film to be released on 26 March 2020. Potentially we are planning to do the feature length version of the film to be released on 16 December of 2021, on the 50th anniversary of the Victory day of Bangladesh.

PRODUCTION STRATEGY & FUTURE PLANS

The journey of an animated film is a long and tiresome one. Especially for an independent production. We may run out of money in doing concepts and R&D. Worse, we may lose the interest of the producers, investors and more importantly, the people. We needed to gather a team. We needed to figure out logistics. We needed to prepare ourselves to actually produce a world-class content.

That’s why we have broken the journey of Surviving 71 into three different phases – trailers, short-film and feature. The plan is to do as much R&D as possible during the making of trailers. Hash-out all the possible technical issues and determine a workable solid pipeline. Gather a strong team and produce the best possible looking content.

We hope that it will motivate the audience and keep them engaged. It will make the investors and producers realize the potential of this production. And then we can finally start making the short-film, with proper financial and logistical support. Again, the plan is to make the short-film at the highest quality, get into various festivals across the globe. Submit it to various funding opportunities, and explore co-producing opportunities for the feature film.

We intend to carry the momentum of the short into our feature production and eventually launch this remarkable story of human survival to the world.
